Response:
The quotes are from The University of New Hampshire's official notification sent to the State of New Hampshire and the letter sent to affected individuals.
"information identifying you individually was inappropriately made available on the university's web site recently. The University of New Hampshire deeply regrets this error in handling your personal information."
[Comfyllama] This quote is from the opening paragraph on the letter to affected individuals. Kudos to the University of New Hampshire for what feels to me like a heart-felt apology.
Commentary:
The response from the University of New Hampshire is long and detailed. I have to say that their notification is one of the better ones that I have seen. Other companies that experience breaches could learn a thing or two from this open and honest letter. It is a little unclear if the total number of affected individuals is more that what is listed because the University only has to notify the New Hampshire Attorney General of thos victims residing in the state of New Hampshire. There are 29 New Hampshire victims.
Employee errors will happen and there is little that can be done to stop all of them.
The university is offering a year of free Triple Alert credit monitoring from Consumerinfo.com, an Experian Company
