Response:
From the online article:

"Patient details in the care of the CHR fell into the hands of criminals when culprits broke into the health region offices located at 4520 16 Ave. N.W. overnight, said CHR spokeswoman Sheila Rougeau."

"Apart from other electronics, seven laptops were stolen, two of which contained patient information."

"CHR security personnel are working closely with police, and if the region determines that individual patients have been affected by this crime, the CHR will contact each of those affected, she said."

"The break-and-enter was described by Telus workers as a sophisticated operation."
[Comfyllama] This concerns me.  Sophisticated theives may know more about what they have in their possession, i.e. personal data than the ordinary thugs.

Commentary:
It is still too early to tell what type of data was taken in the robbery or how many people are affected.  I sent an email to CHR asking for more information, but I do not expect any earth-shocking details.

If you are a current or former patient at CHR, you may want to contact them with any questions you may have.  CHR's online contact information can be found here.   It is always a good idea to check your financial statements on a regular basis.
